PSPCL continues to crack whip on corrupt in its ranks- suspends one and compulsorily retire the other

PSPCL in continuation to ongoing crusade to identify unscrupulous elements among its staff who despite having been forewarned through written communication, have not stopped indulging in misdemeanors cracked its whip again on two officials.

It had come to notice that Sh. Jagroop Singh, Additional Junior Engineer (AJE) s/o Bhagwan Singh posted at Subdivision Zirakpur indulged in malpractices and was damaging the image of the corporation. The matter was investigated by PSPCL Enforcement team. After investigation, it has been found that Sh. Jagroop Singh, Additional Junior Engineer (AJE) is guilty of serious charges like illegal shiftings, wrong release of new connections, pilferage of meters and storage of excess material etc. On receiving inquiry report, CMD PSPCL had placed him under suspension vide office order no. 118 dated 12.07.2019 and asked High Empowered Integrity Committee to consider case of his extension in view of his misdemeanors. Accordingly, vide office order no. 144 dt. 30.08.2019 Sh. Jagroop Singh AAE has been compulsorily retired at the age of 56 years (i.e. two years before attaining 58 year age) due to his extremely poor record.

In another case, CMD PSPCL received a complaint through Whatsapp from Sh. Jagwans Singh r/o Village Chhahar (A/c. no. S92CH510406X) against Revenue Accountant (RA) Sh. Gurdev Singh posted at Subdivision Sub-Urban Dirba regarding payment of bribe to settle a theft case. The matter was investigated by PSPCL. It was found that the connection of the complainant was checked on 12.08.2019 and he was found committing theft of electricity. Revenue Accountant (RA) Sh. Gurdev Singh had demanded Rs. 65,000/- in lieu of said theft case. However, no theft checking notice was served to complainant, but RA took Rs. 28,000/- from the complainant without any receipt. Later, Notice dated 26.08.2019 of Rs. 5,287 and compounding Rs. 6,000/- was generated but not posted or delivered to consumer. On receiving inquiry report, CMD PSPCL ordered him to be placed under suspension vide office order no. 214 dated 09.09.2019 and his headquarters has been fixed at the office of DS office Lehragaga.

Earlier also two officials namely Avtar Singh (Lineman) posted at Sub-division Tohra (under Amloh Division, district Fatehgarh Sahib) who took Rs. 10,000/- in lieu of excess load from the complainant and JE Surta Singh posted at Subdivision Chugawan (Amritsar) who found to be indulging in power theft by-passing his own energy meter were suspended on 30.08.2019 and 02.09.2019 respectively.

Er. Baldev Singh Sran, CMD PSPCL said that PSPCL will not tolerate mistreating of esteemed consumers and indulgence in corrupt practices by any of its employees. He informed that an awareness campaign has been launched through radio jingles, social media and press releases to call upon public at large to come forward to help curb the menace of power theft and corruption. Advertisements have been issued by PSPCL to circulate special numbers so that consumers / informers can inform about power theft or about corruption by PSPCL staff.
