Er.Baldev Singh Sran CMD, Punjab State Power Corporation limited has taken a very serious cognizance of crop fire incidents in different parts of the state and has issued strict directions to all Chief Engineers of Distribution Zones of Punjab to direct all S.Es/Sr.Xens/SDOs under their control to ensure that no incident of crop fire takes place due to electricity short circuit or electric sparking etc., due to lack of maintenance. In case where such incident takes place, concerned Chief Engineer /SE must inspect the site of the fire immediately and in case after the inspection by respective C.E./S.E. that the fire incident is attributed due to poor maintenance, strict action shall be taken against the JE/SDO in charge of the area.


Er.Baldev Singh Sran further informed that instructions have also been issued to all Chief Engineers distribution to ensure to report such incidents and actions taken to Director Distribution office, PSPCL, on day to day basis to ensure the timely payment of due compensation to the aggrieved farmers as per instructions of the PSPCL. Regular periodic maintenance of LD system ,11 KV lines and sub stations is being carried out in field areas to keep the system robust and sparking free so that such incidents of fire may be minimized.


PSPCL had already launched awareness campaign to educate farmers and public to adopt measures to help avoid fire incidents during wheat harvesting particularly due to electrical sparks. Er.Sran appealed the farmers and general public to cooperate and act in a responsible manner to safe guard their wheat crop and electric infrastructure.
