PRESS NOTE, Patiala April 4,2020

Following Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi’s call to switch off lights, on April 5,2020 at 9 pm for 9 minutes, a spokesman of Punjab State Power Corporation limited has appealed its all consumers particularly domestic consumers not to switch OFF/ON any other domestic or other gadgets except residential lights.

Spokesman said that due to lockdown the load of Punjab will be only 2800- 2900 MW at 9 PM and it is expected to decrease by 400 MW or so. It is not a high drop. Presently no thermal plant in Punjab is running and only Hydel plants are running and their response is much faster than thermals etc. PSPCL has sufficient sources to handle this dip and regain of demand through Ranjit Sagar Dam and other hydro plants. Spokesman also added that further action regarding grid operations shall be taken as per national plan. All protocols for grid safety to tackle the likely reduction in demand and voltage surge are in place and there is no need for any apprehension or panic.Street lights and lights in all essential services such as Hospitals, Police stations & public utilities etc etc shall remain switched ON.
