Punjab State Power Corporation Limited has launched a massive drive to check the menace of theft of Electricity in the state and Corporation has achieved great success in this campaign. This was disclosed by CMD,PSPCL Er.Baldev Singh Sran,in a Press Note here today.
Er.Sran disclosed that during the months of April & May, 2018, the enforcement organization of PSPCL has worked with great determination to curb the theft of electricity & leakage of revenue.He said that during the month of April, 2018, the organization has detected a major theft case, in which Rs. 1.02 crore has been charged to a cold store at Jalandhar. Besides this PSPCL has detected 815 no. of theft cases & 6926 no. of other violations during the month of May, 2018. The total amount of Rs. 815.56 lacs has been assessed.
CMD said that the checking has been carried out to ensure the implementation of commercial instructions to provide uninterrupted power supply & correct billing of electricity. During this campaign to curb theft of electricity, an industrial connection under Sahnewal sub-division has been checked jointly by 2 squads under SE/Enforcement, Ludhiana. During this checking the consumer was found stealing electricity by tampering the meter which was found running slow by 76.5%. The connected load of consumer was found 57.470 KW against the sanctioned load of 19.580 KW. The penalty of Rs. 29,87,105/- (including compounding charges of Rs. 2,00,000/-) has been imposed to the consumer and the electricity connection has been disconnected. FIR has also been lodged against the consumer.
Hence, the CMD Er.B.S.Sran has appealed to all the consumers to inform about the theft of electricity. The name of informer will be kept secret. It has also been told that theft of electricity is a social evil and strict legal action will be initiated against the concerned once and no offender will be spared.
