Press Note, Patiala April 9, 2018

Regarding the news published in newspapers about charging higher tariff rates to some electricity consumers, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of PSPCL Sh. A Venu Prasad, IAS told that as per provisions of National Tariff.

Policy Honble PSERC has implemented Two Part Tariff w.e.f. 01.01.2018. In Two Part Tariff fixed charges which are kept below the monthly minimum charges (MMC), will be recovered instead of monthly minimum charges (MMC). Moreover, keeping in view of the interest of small consumers, fixed charges rates are kept different as per their sanctioned load. Implementation of Two Part Tariff will be beneficial for the promotion industry and employment in the State as variable charges are kept below Single Part Tariff rates. Sh. A Venu Prasad, also intimated that Two Part Tariff was implemented w.e.f. 01.01.2018 after giving two months time to the consumers, so that they can optimize/reduce the sanctioned load as per their requirement.

It is also clarified by Sh. A Venu Prasad, that the revised rates are applicable w.e.f. 01.04.2017 and to facilitate the consumers, the arrear for the period of 01.04.2017 to 31.12.2017 is being recovered in installments without interest. Due to this consumers are getting bills with previous arrear.
